The Shopify B2B Deep Dive.
Fourteen chapters on what native Shopify B2B can do, what it cannot, and what closes the gap. Every claim verified against Shopify documentation.
The Shopify B2B Deep Dive is a free knowledge base that documents what native Shopify B2B can and cannot do, verified against Shopify's own documentation. It covers companies, catalogs, payment terms, checkout, quoting, themes, extensions, subscriptions, ordering, and the full constraints ledger across 14 chapters. It is maintained by the team behind B2B Supercharge and last verified 2026-07-12.
What is the Shopify B2B Deep Dive?
Shopify B2B is a real wholesale foundation: companies, catalogs, payment terms, vaulted cards, draft orders, quick order lists, and self-serve customer accounts, built into the Shopify admin. Since Shopify opened core B2B to Basic, Grow, Advanced, and Plus, the question stopped being "does Shopify do B2B" and became "which parts, on which plan, and what still needs an app." The answers today live scattered across Shopify help pages, developer docs, and Reddit threads. This knowledge base centralizes them.
Each chapter answers one question about B2B on Shopify, cites the exact help.shopify.com or shopify.dev page behind every claim, and carries a last-verified date. When Shopify ships changes, the chapters get re-verified and re-stamped. It is a reference that happens to be published by the team behind B2B Supercharge, so it is also honest about the gaps our modules exist to close.
How do I read these pages?
Every capability claim is tagged. NATIVE means Shopify documents the feature and we verified it on an official page. NOT NATIVE means the feature does not appear anywhere in Shopify's B2B documentation; we say so explicitly rather than guessing. Where a limit has a number (3 active catalogs on non-Plus plans, 500 line items per order, 10 sales staff per company location), the number links to its source.
Verification standard. Facts come only from help.shopify.com and shopify.dev, read directly on the stamp date. Where Shopify documentation does not state something, the chapters mark it as an absence, not a fact. Last verified 2026-07-12.
The 14 chapters
What Shopify B2B actually includes
The full native feature set, plan by plan: what every plan gets, what stays Plus-only, what Shopify Plus costs, and what is missing entirely. Start here.
Companies, contacts, and permissions
How the company model works: companies, contacts, and the two native buyer roles (ordering only, location admin). Answers whether you can build custom roles or spend limits.
Company locations explained
What a company location controls: catalogs, payment terms, addresses, tax exemptions, and checkout settings, plus the entity limits (locations and contacts per company, catalogs per location).
Catalogs, price lists, and volume pricing
How a catalog combines a price list with a publication, how overlapping catalogs resolve (lowest price wins), quantity rules, and the 3-catalog cap on non-Plus plans.
Contract and live pricing beyond price lists
Where fixed price lists stop scaling and what ERP-driven, per-account contract pricing looks like on Shopify. Covers the no-webhooks constraint on catalog and price list sync.
Payment terms, net terms, and credit
The Net 7 to Net 90 menu, vaulted cards, deposits and partial payments on Plus, and what does not happen when terms come due: Shopify does not capture payment automatically, and there is no native credit limit.
B2B checkout and draft orders
The one-page B2B checkout, checkout-to-draft merchant review, PO numbers, and the incompatibility list: no Shop Pay, Apple Pay, Google Pay, or Amazon Pay on B2B orders.
Quoting on Shopify B2B
Shopify's feature list documents no quote workflow; draft orders plus invoices are the native pattern. This chapter maps what that pattern covers and where real quoting begins.
Building B2B themes and portals
The Trade theme, quick order list blocks, and the Liquid objects (company, company_location, customer.b2b?) that make a storefront behave differently for signed-in buyers.
Customer Account UI Extensions for B2B
How apps extend the buyer's account pages, and which B2B-specific extension targets exist for company details, location addresses, payment, and staff sections.
Shopify Functions for B2B
What Functions can customize for wholesale: discounts, payment method visibility, and review requirements such as "orders over a threshold submit as drafts."
Subscriptions and B2B: what works
Shopify documents that B2B does not support purchase options, including subscriptions, pre-orders, and try-before-you-buy. This chapter covers the constraint and the workable patterns around it.
Quick order lists, reorder, and bulk buying
The quick order list table, easy reorders by duplicating past orders, and the line-item ceilings: 500 per order, 200 per draft order.
The Constraints Ledger
Every documented Shopify B2B limit in one sourced table: entity caps, plan gating, checkout incompatibilities, API limits, and the functional gaps, each linked to its fix.
Where do the fixes live?
The Deep Dive documents the platform as it is. The Limitations, fixed section takes the six gaps merchants hit hardest, order search and reporting, approvals, quoting, invoice payments, rep tooling, and ERP/CRM sync, and shows how a B2B Supercharge module closes each one natively inside Shopify. If you would rather walk through it live, book a demo.
Frequently asked questions
Is Shopify B2B only available on Shopify Plus?
No. Companies, net terms, vaulted cards, draft orders, quick order lists, and sales staff permissions run on Basic, Grow, Advanced, and Plus. Plus removes the 3-active-catalog cap and adds direct catalog-to-company assignment, deposits, partial payments, and payment requests per fulfillment. See the overview chapter.
What does Shopify B2B include natively?
Companies with locations and contacts, catalogs combining price lists and publications, volume pricing and quantity rules, payment terms from Net 7 to Net 90, vaulted cards, a dedicated B2B checkout, draft orders, PO numbers, quick order lists, easy reorders, self-serve customer accounts, sales staff permissions, and Flow automations.
Does Shopify B2B have a quoting feature?
No quote workflow appears in Shopify's B2B feature documentation. The documented pattern is merchant-created draft orders sent as invoices with a checkout link. The quoting chapter covers what that pattern does and does not handle.
Do Shop Pay, Apple Pay, or Google Pay work in B2B checkout?
No. Shopify documents that accelerated checkouts, including Shop Pay, Apple Pay, Google Pay, and Amazon Pay, are incompatible with B2B checkout.
Does Shopify B2B support subscriptions?
No. Shopify states that B2B does not support purchase options, including subscriptions, pre-orders, and try-before-you-buy. The subscriptions chapter covers the workable alternatives.
Is Shopify good for B2B?
The native foundation is strong and available on every plan: companies, per-location catalogs, net terms, and a dedicated checkout. The gaps sit in workflow: quoting, buyer-side approvals, credit limits, automatic payment capture, batch invoice payment, and ERP/CRM connectors do not appear in Shopify's B2B feature documentation, and where the docs address credit management or ERP and CRM integration, they point to apps and APIs. The Constraints Ledger lists every limit with sources.
