Shopify B2B limitations, fixed.

Native Shopify B2B is a strong foundation with documented gaps. Each page in this section maps one gap to the module that closes it, inside the Shopify you already run.

TL;DR

Native Shopify B2B covers companies, catalogs, payment terms, and draft orders, but it ships without native quoting, buyer-side order approvals, batch invoice payment, sales rep tooling, ERP/CRM sync, and buyer-facing order search by SKU. B2B Supercharge closes those six gaps with modules that install as a Shopify app, so merchants keep the native foundation and skip the replatform.

Native Shopify B2B gives wholesale merchants a real foundation: company profiles with locations and contacts, catalogs with fixed and volume pricing, net payment terms, vaulted payment methods, draft orders, and quick order lists (Shopify B2B feature list). None of the fixes in this section replace that foundation. They add the layer Shopify's own documentation leaves to apps: quoting, approvals, batch invoice payment, rep tooling, ERP and CRM sync, and buyer-facing search and reporting.

How this section works. Each fix page documents one gap in native Shopify B2B, cites the Shopify documentation that defines it, and shows the B2B Supercharge module that closes it. For the full, sourced list of native constraints, read the Constraints Ledger in the Shopify B2B Deep Dive. Last verified 2026-07-12 against Shopify documentation.

What does native Shopify B2B already cover?

More than most teams expect. Shopify B2B now runs on Basic, Grow, Advanced, and Plus plans, with plan-gated limits (features by plan). Companies hold locations and contacts, each location carries its own catalogs, payment terms, and checkout settings. Buyers get self-serve accounts with order history, easy reorders, PO numbers at checkout, and quick order lists. Merchants get draft orders, Flow automations, and a full Admin API surface. That is the NATIVE column, and it is genuinely strong.

The gaps below are not edge cases. They are the workflows most wholesale operations run every day, and Shopify's documentation either omits them from the feature list or explicitly points to apps.

Quoting

Shopify's B2B feature list contains no quote request, quote builder, or negotiation flow. The documented pattern is a merchant-created draft order sent as an invoice, which is one-directional and lives in email. The Buying Tools module adds real quoting: your team builds quotes line by line against margin floors, buyers accept them in their account, and the quote converts to an order without re-keying.

Order approvals and role ceilings

Native buyer permissions are a two-role model, ordering only and location admin (contact permissions); the documentation lists no custom roles and no per-role spend limits. The only native approval mechanism is merchant-side review, where checkouts submit as draft orders for the merchant; the documentation describes no buyer-side approval chains. Account Tools adds custom roles, approval thresholds, and automatic routing with a full sign-off history.

Order search and reporting

The Customer Account API filters a company's orders by name, number, dates, status, and purchasing entity; the documented filter list includes no product or SKU filter, so there is no documented way for buyers to search their history by what they bought. Account Tools gives buyers search by status, PO, SKU, and location, plus saved filters, exports, and scheduled reporting for your side.

Batch invoice payment

Native net-terms orders are invoiced order by order, and payments are not automatically captured when payment terms expire: someone has to chase each one. The Payments module lets buyers select every open invoice and pay them in one transaction, with automatic aging and reconciliation that posts back per invoice.

Sales rep tooling

Native sales staff permissions filter admin views to assigned company locations, capped at 10 staff per location. Shopify documentation does not describe any way for a rep to log in as a buyer on the storefront. The Sales Rep Toolkit adds secure login-as-customer with a full audit trail, rep-built carts handed back as links, and territory scoping.

ERP and CRM sync

There is no native ERP connector. Shopify's documentation points to integrations built by Shopify Partners or custom API builds, and there are no webhooks for catalog or price list changes, so integrations must poll. The ERP & CRM Integrations module syncs orders, invoices, quotes, and remittance both ways with Dynamics 365, NetSuite, Sage, HubSpot, and Salesforce.

How do the fixes install?

B2B Supercharge installs as a Shopify app on Shopify Plus, on top of the native B2B foundation. There is no replatform and no separate portal to maintain: your team works in the admin they already know, and your buyers stay in the customer account they already log into. The base platform is free and every module switches on independently, so you can start with the gap that hurts most and add the rest at your own pace. Frequently asked questions

Is Shopify bad at B2B?

No. Native Shopify B2B is a genuinely strong foundation: companies, catalogs, payment terms, and draft orders are all built in. The six gaps documented here are workflow layers that Shopify's own documentation leaves to apps.

What are the main limitations of Shopify B2B?

The six that matter operationally: no native quoting, no buyer-side order approvals, no batch invoice payment, no rep storefront tooling, no native ERP/CRM connectors, and no buyer-facing order search by product or SKU. The full sourced list lives in the Constraints Ledger.

Do these fixes require a replatform or custom build?

No. B2B Supercharge installs as a Shopify app on top of native B2B. Your admin, theme, and customer accounts stay where they are.

Do I need Shopify Plus to use B2B Supercharge?

Yes. B2B Supercharge is built on Shopify's native B2B foundation and runs on Shopify Plus.

Can I turn on just one module?

Yes. The base platform is free and each module activates independently, so you can start with the single gap that hurts most.

Does Shopify B2B have native quoting?

No. The feature list contains no quote workflow; the documented pattern is a merchant-created draft order sent as an invoice. The quoting fix covers what Buying Tools adds.

Does Shopify B2B sync with my ERP natively?

No native connector exists. Shopify documentation points to partner-built integrations or custom API builds, and catalogs and price lists have no webhooks. The ERP/CRM fix shows the two-way sync module.
